I thought i would post a few more screenshots for the upcoming vrml game world I am making. I am nearly complete with level 2 now. I still have alot of effects to add and optimization to code as well but it is making steady progress.
Beware the Catacombs!

|

Tonight I tried my hand at bones animation for the first time. The last level of my game I wanted to have some more realistic looking fish swimming around rather than just animated flat mesh so gave this a try. To my suprise it really wasnt as hard as I thought it would be. I read a tutorial on the net and then just did it.
What took me the longest was modelling the dang Perch. LOL I never really did this type of model before either although I kind of know the steps involved in doing it. There are alot of great tutorials on the net if you look for them.
After I got the fish modelled and save I began adding some bones (just a few) to try this out. I had to add the skin modifier to the mesh and assign the bones to it. after that it is just a matter of animating the bones and they control the mesh.
Although I am pleased with how this turned out I can probably make better bones animations after doing it once but the thing is that the CoordinateInterpolator that was generated by just a few bones in a solid mesh is larger in and of itself than the sum of the entire file. I can see where this type of animation should probably used sparingly in vrml. I can't imagine I will be able to have unlimited schools of these fish swimming around without some consequence to performance. LOL
Anyways here is the example I made.

I am making more progress on the Game. Some of this work is extremely tedious! lol. I keep on chugging though looking forward to the Day when it is done. There is a massive amount of scripting on level 3 so it has been kind of slow going but I now have level 3 added to the main file and most of the features are operational, save a few tweaks I need to make. I took a few more screenshots in case anyone is interested in viewing them.

A few screenshots from the testbed of level 4. this level is so huge it is hard to take decent screenshots and still be able to tell what you are looking at. lol
