For Tito1 :
If You wont to talk with me about 'Active Worlds' and 'Morfit', then come in my forum. This is the ABNet's forum, and Rick not wont to talk about ather things ...
I tell You from now,
'Morfit' is a very good VR player even is a litle old,
and about 'Active World', I tell You this: has a very performant server and plugin.
The best VR server and plugin are from SCOL ( that old CRYONETICS ) ...
See You later |

Posted: Mon Sep 01, 2008 9:59 pm Post subject: How to use this interface to link the worlds in your site |
|
|
NOTE: This post is outdated. The actual way to connect a world is simplified. Just go to the lauch Page at:
http://www.odisseia.univ-ab.pt/ABNet2/index.aspx
---------------------------------------------------------------------
How to use this interface as your own and link the worlds in your site
A good thing in ABNET is that we can build an interface that can be easily shared and used by other sites in the same way the one in VRMWORLD.net is. Normally, the only thing you replace is the base page URL (http://www.odisseia.univ-ab.pt/ABNet2/3dchat.aspx) by the URL of the other interface's base page.
It is not necessary to have the interface located (saved) in your server, you just have to build a URL and link to it.
Interfaces are a bit like skins and we can use the ABNet server with different interfaces, skins. In the future there will be several available (in a menu possibly). The user chooses what he likes and the only thing to know is the URL of the skin, but, despite the diferent "skins", we all connect to the same server: ABNet
Example 1: connecting a world by a link
You have a 3D world in a site of yours and want to share it in a multiuser way. If you decide to use ABNet standard interface you create a URL like the one below (the most simple).
You need to join
ABNET 3D page base URL + URL of the 3d world + Title of the world + Time Start
The correspondent URL for ABNet standard interface, with the same colours, is:
http://www.odisseia.univ-ab.pt/ABNet2/3dchat.aspx?x3durl=http://66.7.210.142/~virtualh/VRML/HLDeathMatchB/HLDeathMatch.wrl&title=DM+Bulk+Base+-+ABNet2.0+chat&ts=1220315676
(Note: the Time Start can be ignored. If you don't know how to get the time number, you can put any number, really or just let it empty. Like this: &ts=
... with nothing in front)
To make a URL for vcard's ABNet interface you just have to replace the ABNET 3D page base URL by the the correspondent vcard's ABNET 3D page base URL . That is:
http://vrmlworld.net/frameset.php?x3durl=http://66.7.210.142/~virtualh/VRML/HLDeathMatchB/HLDeathMatch.wrl&title=DM+Bulk+Base+-+ABNet2.0+chat&ts=
A more easy way ...
Is not necessary to do this URL by hand if you don't want to. ABNet provides a simpler way. Just go to the easy start page:
http://www.odisseia.univ-ab.pt/ABNet2/index.html
put the data in, copy the url generated in the grey window and use it like that to build your link. You will get something similar to this (the order of the parts can be commuted):
http://vrmlworld.net/frameset.php?x3durl=http://66.7.210.142/~virtualh/VRML/HLDeathMatchB/HLDeathMatch.wrl&title=DM+Bulk+Base+-+ABNet2.0+chat&ts=
Example 2: changing your code
If you have special code in your site that builds the URL, or for other purpose, the only thing to change is the address of the page base: Replace the standard ABNet page base URL (http://www.odisseia.univ-ab.pt/ABNet2/3dchat.aspx) by this one:
http://vrmlworld.net/frameset.php
Example 3: for the lazy ones
If you want to simplify it all, just say in your own style something like this:
>>To see my world "DM Bulk Base ", image below
got to: http://www.odisseia.univ-ab.pt/ABNet2/3dchat.aspx and in rooms view choose room "DM Bulk Base"<<
And it will work.
(Note: used a tito's world in this example. He was the first person to ask for this post)
Give it a try!

Actually, the WBandD site is one I put up and Tut is a member on. It has groups set aside for Communities, ABNet, Vivaty and ExitReality. Not a forum really, mostly a gathering place I felt might be useful especially since the outers are gone(and probably NOT coming back). I have always been a supporter of the ABNet platform and Rick's efforts and I STILL think it is an excellent solution, even with the "floating logo". I love to see the efforts going on here by people who hsve the skill to do it. I am not as versed in the server-side as some so I get to learn in the process. That is one of the reasons I put up the WBandD site. So ideas and information can be shared and exchanged. |

Hi Omind,
So you are the one behind WBandD.......EXCELLENT!
You have a fine social site there, and I am proud to be a member of it. I am the one who has a shark's head sticking out of the water as an avatar. I hope you're site's membership keeps growing and wish you the best. |

Yes I did, vcard!
I went ahead and used your interface's URL and replaced VRML World.net's interface with yours. I created a second copy of my Virtual Half Life Express Login Page and changed it with your interface. Since your (vcard's) custom interface already provides a text box to input your login name, I found that it was not necessary to keep the one on my Express Login Page, and removed it. I still have the avatar selector field on the Express Login Page, and apparently it still works with the new interface. Well, let me shut up now and let you all check it out for your self's: http://www.virtualhl.info/VHLbase/ExpressLogin_VCARD.htm |

Hi guys,
Two small interface improvements:
1- Last used avatars are now saved automatically (by cookie) an You can pick them in a drop down list, in user details view.
2- To cope with the need to do print screens without the bs contact logo (if you don't use a licenced version) there is a new icon tool that hides the logo temporarily (at least, and permanently if you use the 6.109 or other version with a fixed logo). A Image and more details, in french, at Louize forum:

Hope you enjoy!

Hi
The interface had some changes to better exploit the Web interface. New features are already there:
-Hyperlinks. URL adresses in the chat are automatically transformed into Hyperlinks.
-Text colours in the Chat window to differentiate the user, other users and system messages.
-Icons. A small group of the most common icons was added. They are similar to those used in this forum and when we type smiley characters in the text, they will be [hopefully] converted to icons in the chat window
To commemorate the cute flower planter presented today by Lazz, a flower was added to ABNet Interface Chat icons:
By the way, the smiley text code to call a flower icon is @};-
