ABNET2 was serving vr-chat just fine, installed on my Win XP laptop, with the pages also here on the local harddisk, DNS through DynDNS.
Now Contact console gives the above error message, while the chat window scrolls "Waiting for connect to complete", and users can not see each other.
I have allowed all TCP WAN and LAN traffic on port 8023 in the firewall in the router, and the html pages work OK on port 80. Still, I think there is that one-last-thing that I haven't gotten quite right in my configuration.
Turning the firewall off does not help, though things APPEAR to work if I connect the the machine with ABNET and webpages directly by cable to the ADSL modem, bypassing the wireless box.
Possibly I need to get something more "serious" and stable than the D-link DI-524 Wireless Router to run a multiuser world in my den
Any hints on what to try next, anyone? |

| The chat seemed to work fine for me when we tested it the other day, it seemed you only had trouble connecting with yourself! Did you try using http://localhost ? |

Hi again, Lumin!
Yes, naturally I tried localhost. I can connect to the wrl, but not ABNET2 server, even when going in from the machine where the world and ABNET is installed. I still hypothesize some slimy DNS can of worms in the DI-524, effective whenever I'm using it as a gateway to the Internet.
At this point I've pretty much tried everything (i think . . . ) I'll try on different hardware/platforms, and also try to get a clearer understanding of networking protocols, ports . . . and stuff.
Of course, it DOES work well when ABNET is on a machine directly wired to the modem, so I guess that's a temporary solution. I might also try a clean install on a cleaner machine, I suppose.
So many worms, and so little time |

I'll give you a hint, although it won't be the one you asked for.
Get rid of the wireless router. When you use one of those, some of your neighbours, rather than paying for their own connectivity, will tap into and consume your bandwidth. This is very easy to do, and in fact, I know of 3 people on my very street who are doing it now.
Just do it. Replace your router with a wired one and throw the wireless into the garbage can. I almost guarantee that your performance will improve. |
