It has turned out Abnet2 client does not connect to
the server if the version of Contact is the original
6.1 In order to connect you must install either of the
two current 6.1 or 7 downloads at Bitmanagement.

The problem is that both of these have the wandering logo.
The nice thing about the original 6.1 was that the
logo sat in the lower right corner minding its own ps and qs.

I also suspect that the new version of 6.1 may be prone to
lockup in bxx chat, but I have no absolute proof of that at the
moment, just two bad experiences.
Having both a 7.0 and old 6.1 install you
can't simply switch between the two by re-registering the
appropriate bsVRML.ocx. It seems once 7 is installed it
is always called up.
So here is a way to switch between the two:
Assuming you have the old 6.1 exe:
1. Remove any current BS Contact installs.
2. Install the old 6.1 version first. By default
it installs into "C:/Program Files/Bitmanagement Software/BS VRML" directory.
3. Create a folder on your desktop called Bitmanagment.
4. In that folder create two sub-folders: Contact_6_1
and Contact_7.
5. In each of these create a sub-folder called "BS VRML X3D"
6. Copy the entire contents of the "C:/Program Files/Bitmanagement Software/BS VRML" folder into the new "Bitmanagment/Contact_6_1/BS VRML X3D" directory folder.
7. Install the new Contact 7.0, which by default, go into
"C:/Program Files/Bitmanagement Software/BS VRML X3D"
8. Copy the entire contents of this fresh install into the
"Bitmanagment/Contact_7/BS VRML X3D" directory folder.
9. You can at this point, if you wish to free up hard drive space,
delete the "C:/Program Files/Bitmanagement Software/BS VRML" folder.
10. To switch between the two versions of Contact simply copy
the "BS VRML X3D" folder from the desired version of Contact.
and go to the "C:/Program Files/Bitmanagement Software" folder.
( creating a short cut cuts down on the aggravation a little Smile
11. Delete the current "BS VRML X3D" folder residing in
"Bitmanagement Software" You can't simply over-write it.
There is a mechanism in place that prevents that. An overwrite
attempt will simply paste the copied "BS VRML X3D" folder into
the target as a sub-folder.
12. Once the old folder is deleted, paste in the copied "BS VRML X3D"
You are all set. BS Contact versions have been switched.

Remember the person that dies with the most VRML/X3D
plug-in/browsers wins!

Right click on the BS_Contact_VRML_61.exe
Select "Properties", then "Version" tab.
The old 6.1 exe will read in the
File Version and Product version selections: 6.1.0.1

The new 6.1 will read in
File Version and Product version selections: 6.1

Yes, that is correct! They are reversed!
The old version is numerically higher than the new.

Sorry for the "BS", but in my original post I had the install folder
named as "BS VRML X3D"
It should have been "BS Contact VRML X3D"

Russ,

Thanks for that info! Hopefully, you aren't seeing
the wandering logo for any content that is under
the vrmlworld.net domain.

I'm sure you win the prize for most VRML browsers
running under Netscape 4.7 : )

Netscape 4.7 is history. Get hip man!
I use the swan song Netscape 4.8 Razz

Besides, the key phrase is "standalone EAI application for VRML plugins"
not "default html browser"
