I've been working on a new version of ABNet. Major advantages
of this release are:

o Works with Flux Beta player from Media Machines
(http://www.vizx3d.com/fluxstudio_beta/)
o Supports more than one world without any special coding
o Protocol is much tighter and uses less bandwidth

While ABNet is surely not there yet, I'd like it to become closer to the Metaverse that is described in the cyber classic Snow Crash.

If you have installed the latest flux beta player (Version 2 Beta 3 Build 614 or above) you can try out a beta version of ABNet 2.0 that works with flux here:

http://vrmlworld.net/fluxtest/flux.html

You must enable java and allow outbound TCP socket connections to port 8023 of vrmlworld.net

ABNet 2.0 is a multi-user 3d chat server that doesn't require Java EAI
to interact with the VRML/X3D scene. It is developed by Kimball Software.
ABNet is the 3d chat server behind vrmlworld.net. I plan to offer a version
of ABNet that works with flux as an open source project sometime in July.

Yes, it will support avatars. At the moment, it is using the very simple namedblockhead.wrl avatar. Flux doesn't like the exposedFields of typical Avatar Studio Avatars. I'm looking at using H-Anim avatars in addition to the very simple ones. To change avatars you will provide a different http query argument.

Currently when you join the world, and if someone else is in the same world, you will see them. They look like a lego man.

The USERS ONLINE on the page indicates .. [users in zone/all zones] where each world becomes a zone.

Hi.

I've been using Flux Beta for about three months now and I love it. Not much has changed since Vizx3d. What I love is the new Inline nodes which actually display an object so you can move around.
Rather than placing them physically in the scene, the Inline node lets you create complex scenes with high res objects by having them load independently from your server.

Just thought I mention it.

Hello,

I downloaded the actual Flux Player, but I have many difficulties running it. It seems to need a lot of cpu ressources. Running a single Player needs about 50% of my cpu-power, running two players for testing a local chat needs 100 % of my cpu-ressources.

Is there somebody else with this or a similar problem?

Greetings,
Joachim

Yes that is similar to the results I see here. Flux at this point
seems to render worlds pretty nicely. However, it really
needs to be optimized. Because the source is available,
it is possible that someone will take on that task.

I'm really excited about this release of ABNet, and if I ever figure out what Flux is, and what to do with it, I may just become dangerous.

For now, unfortunately, I have no idea of how to get any 3D chat server to work. I've been trying for over 5 years, but so far, no good.

Flux player is x3d viewer/browser for window. Besides Bitmanagement Contact it is the only windows based X3d Viewer that I know of. But I always have had trouble getting BS contact to load x3d content. It works fine with vrml files though. If you can get past that floating "Trial version click her to register." box that pops up in each window.

Flux Studio is and x3d Creation program. I have not actually tried that. Both of them have recently gone open source.
