|
|
I've downloaded ABNet 2 server, install it in one Windows XP Pro station running IIS, got it up and running. I used a separate station to join the chat with the 3D URL and avartar URL set to where the Flux's path is using the server's IP address. I could navigate the lobby world and type in messages in the chat. Everything workds fine. I then use a second separate station to join the chat and both this and the first station's IE crashed! Has anyone encountered a problem like this?
Also, I'm not able to see the Avartar too, the namedBlockHead avartar that's in the Flux path. |

Which version of flux are you using? I've been testing with
the latest from their site which is build 624.
On the second station try just loading the worlds.
http://yourserver/yourpath/namedblockedhead01.wrl
http://vrmlworld.net/lobby/lobby.wrl
Does that work on the second station?
Note: If you enter an invalid url for the avatar when using
the flux version, it does cause problems. Although, I haven't
seen it crash, on my machine it just seems to hang.
Have you tried using the contact version? Does that work succesfully?

The Flux player I'm using is build 624 too.
I tried the following as you've suggested.
1) If I just load the world only on both the first and second station, they work OK.
2) On the first station, I enter chat to the lobby world and on a second station, I just load the same world. Both works fine.
3) Lastly, I tried the 2 stations entering chat, the second station on entering the chat would hang and cause the first to hang too.
I've not try the contact version yet, will try eventually.

It works!
I don't really know what went wrong or right but I uninstalled the existing ABNet 2 installation off the server, reinstall it, start it and now both Flux and Contact works!
Chat is working fine.
The only problem now is ... no avartar. I've notice, if I used Contact to open the namedBlockHead1.wrl file manually, it opens up the block head character fine but if I want to import it into Flux Studio Beta by using it's import X3D/VRML function, there's an error saying :
Invalid Transform Parameter

oops, sorry , wrong info, only the Contact one works, the Flux one is still causing both systems to hang. The Contact version is able to see avatars, the flux one still does not see any avatar when one station joins the chat

At this point there isn't a "3rd person view" for Flux. You will only
see other peoples avatars.
In Contact, you can right click on the scene and pick 'show my avatar'

Yes, Contact works fine. for Flux, I'm still having the problem of both station hang the moment the second station joins the chat. Anyone experienced this? If Contact works fine, then the ABNet 2 server should be OK.

Can you describe your test environment?
What kind of computers?
Memory, Operating Systems , Video Cards, Network Cards? Which version of MSIE?
Network environment? Local Lan? Internet? Router? DNS? IP addresses?
Are you connecting to your ABNet Server?
Have you tried the test world at vrmlworld.net?
Does it work properly there?
If it works with Contact then maybe you have problems with Flux
that are unrelated to the ABNet server.

My hardware are as such :
Server : Dell GX620 Dua Core with 2GB RAM and 160 GB Harddisk, 256MB ATI RADEON X600, Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit controller.
Test stations : Compaq EVO D500 Desktops with 768MB RAM, NVidia GFORCE 2 MX/MX400, 40 GB Harddisk, Intel PRO 100/VM Network card.
IE Version : 6.0.2900 SP2
The network environment I'm testing on is within a campus network using IP (Sorry, I'm not very good with netowrk stuffs)
I've set up my own ABNet server.
I've tried the test world at VRMLNet but I'm usually alone there.
I agree that the problem is not with the ABNET2 server as Contact works fine, I just don't understand why mine doesn't work with FLux.

If you want to set a time and date we can try testing on
your server or with vrmlworld.net.
I'm in the EDT. GMT-4
